🧠 Top Stories

1. Google’s newest A.I. model uses nearly five times more text data for training than its predecessor

Google said in a blog post about PaLM 2 that the model uses a “new technique” called “compute-optimal scaling.” That makes the LLM “more efficient with overall better performance, including faster inference, fewer parameters to serve, and a lower serving cost.”

PaLM 2 is more powerful than any existing model, based on public disclosures. Facebook’s LLM called LLaMA, announced in February, is trained on 1.4 trillion tokens. The last time OpenAI shared ChatGPT’s training size was with GPT-3, when the company said it was trained on 300 billion tokens at the time. OpenAI released GPT-4 in March and said it exhibits “human-level performance” on many professional tests.

2. Elon Musk doubles down on Tesla robotaxis in TV interview

Tesla held its annual meeting Tuesday afternoon after the market closed. Tesla CEO Elon Musk told excited attendees that the Cybertruck would be produced in 2023 and that he would drive one.

He confirmed a reduction in silicon carbide power electronics in drive units and presented the company's humanoid robotics program.

He also said "We're now at the point where the car can drive on highways and in cities with and where a human dimension is extremely rare. So I mean, just—I was able to drive for several days, just dropping a navigation pin in random locations in the greater Austin area with no interventions. And the same in San Francisco, which is a very difficult place to drive. So I mean, it's—you’ve got bus lanes, one-way streets. You know, it's quite a challenging homeless situation,"

3. Stability AI has released StableStudio, a public version of DreamStudio.

Stability AI is open-sourcing DreamStudio, a commercial interface for its AI image generator model, Stable Diffusion.

Stability AI announced Wednesday that StableStudio "marks a fresh chapter" for the platform and will demonstrate the company's "dedication to advancing open-source development."

It lets community developers tweak the interface, which could benefit the company.

In its press release, Stability AI stressed community building: “From enabling local-first development to experimenting with a new plugin system, we've tried hard to make things extensible for external developers.”

4. Samsung is Developing ChatGPT-like AI

Samsung and Naver are building a ChatGPT-like generative AI platform.

This AI tool will be used internally by Samsung employees, unlike ChatGPT.

Samsung learned the hard way that ChatGPT in the workplace is dangerous.

When a few employees used ChatGPT to simplify their work, they didn't realize that the information and code they shared with the generative AI would become part of ChatGPT and be stored on remote servers outside Samsung's control.

The Importance of a Data Analyst Portfolio and How you can Build Yours.

Data analysts need a strong portfolio in today's competitive job environment.

Job searchers might improve their chances of getting a desired position by providing a visually appealing and diverse portfolio of projects.
