1. Meta Release New Text to Speech AI
Voicebox is Meta's most recent release, and it's a revolutionary all-in-one generative speech model. The company's breakneck rate of AI research continues with this release.
Here's the breakdown:
It is capable of performing duties for which it was not trained.
Has features such as noise reduction, content editing, and style conversion, among others.
Generates speech in a total of six different languages.
Provides support for text-to-speech synthesis as well as style transfer between languages
20 times faster than the models currently in use and beats single-purpose models thanks to its in-context learning capabilities (yes, 20x)
It is interesting to note that in contrast to the open-sourced methodology that Meta typically use for the creation of their AI, they have decided not to make the model or the code publicly available since the potential for abuse is too great.
The art of the prank call is going to enter a new dimension.
This is your daily reminder to inform the people you care about that it is possible to clone the voice of anyone using AI.
2. AI Delegation: The One Skill You Will Need To Succeed In The Future
The emergence of generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, has shown how powerful, useful, and accessible AI has become. Businesses of all sizes are now racing to adopt AI.
AI delegation requires understanding the capabilities of AI and how they relate to the business functions you manage. It's not just for managers; every employee can use AI delegation to manage their workload and reduce time spent on repetitive tasks.
Skills needed for AI delegation include understanding what AI can and can't do, knowing how AI impacts your role within the organization, learning to use AI tools effectively, and understanding the legal, regulatory, and ethical implications of using AI in the workplace.
The future of AI delegation in the workplace is evolving quickly. Those who master AI delegation and use it effectively can enjoy more productive, interesting, and rewarding careers.
3. Meta lost a third of its AI researchers over the last year. Now it's struggling to keep up…
According to a Wall Street Journal report, since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November, Meta has lost a third of its published AI researchers. The reasons for their departure include burnout and a lack of confidence in the direction Meta is taking. Adding to the company's woes, it was notably absent from the White House's May AI leadership summit, which gathered "companies at the forefront of AI innovation."
Despite CEO Mark Zuckerberg's heavy investment in AI, Meta is struggling to keep pace with competitors like OpenAI due to layoffs and the departure of key researchers. The company is now attempting to correct previous missteps that led to a shift in focus away from generative AI, despite employees' recommendations to pursue this new direction. Under the leadership of Yann LeCun, an AI "godfather" recruited by Zuckerberg in 2013, researchers reportedly found it challenging to advocate for large language models like ChatGPT.
